Default What hooks do you use for Dries.......

In size 14-20?

Out of interest what hooks do you favor and why?

Can anyone recommend a barbless hook?

I use tmc mainly.

My three favourite hooks just now for drys are Tiemco 103BL, 102Y and 100/101.
I like the proportions of all three. The 103BL is probably my favourite one and it's barbless.

For standard shaped hooks, generally:

TMC 902BL for lightly dressed affairs - holds and hooks well

TMC 103BL as a general hook - just seems to be more reliable than the similar Partridge Surehold Lightning Dry

TMC 900BL for its heavier wire ( I use this most of the time for Elk Hair Caddis and other robust deer hair patterns).

I do use other hooks of course, but those are my mainstays at the moment.

All barbless

Cheers,

.D.

Is it just me but i have found that i snap the points off the tmc hooks sometimes.

This is mainly when i am tying at the vice and not when fishing.

I make sure the head does not have to tight a grip but anough to hold the hook.

No - its not just you. I had a bad batch of size 14 902BLs where that happened on 4 or 5 of the hooks in one packet! Ohterwise they've been excellent.

They do (TMC hooks), in the field tend towards snapping rather than bending when the issue is forced. I think that just reflects the way they're tempered. Just seems more dramatic. Partridge fine wire hooks on the other hand tend to straighten with the least persuasion.

I've never had the 900BL fail me

Some Barbless #14-20 Dry Fly Hooks:

*ScientificFly's Grip Hooks -- entire barbless dry fly range:
http://scientificfly.com/show_prod.p...oks&category=2

*Gamakatsu -- S10 barbless dry fly hook.
*Gamakatsu -- Retainer Bend Barbless Hook.

*Daiichi 1190 -- barbless equivalent of Daiichi 1180, dry fly hook.

*Partridge SLD -- dry fly hook.

*TMC 103BL, 900BL dry fly hooks.

generally, for myself, in that order...and then there's Knapek and Skalka (Cz. Rep.) barbless dry fly hooks out there.

Hi Folks,

I've been using these-:
http://www.thefishguy.net/hooks.htm#Barbless Dry Fly

for the last couple of seasons and think they are a great hook, haven't had one fail on me yet. Great propotions, sharp point and fine wire an all round great dry fly hook.

Cheers

Mick
