Requirements:
A **** load of patience , a soundproof room and a good supply of whiskey.
1 Clear CD(compact Disk) case, or any sheet of clear glass/perspex.
Pealable Glass Paint - TUBES with fine nozzle , 1 Clear & 1 Black - the runnier the better
The type of paint is important. I purchased a couple tubes of these a few years ago, unfortunately half way through the ones for the swap I finished one tube and the other one had dried up and was unable to get same type again - the replacement stuff was too thick and harder to work with.
EYES: Sequins - Any colour you prefer, gold works well. Coloured beads can be used for the pupil.
HOOK : Size to suit size of fish, though I wouldn't bother fishing such a beast.
1 picture of a fish sized to what you wish to produce - this will be the template to get the shape you want. (this idea occurred to me for doing the large one for scotfly, alas the ones for the swap were by hand, hence they are all different)
COLOURS: I used water colours, these will run a bit, but offer a more realistic end result.
GLITTER: gold, silver etc... - depending on the type of fish.
Method:
Cellotape the picture of the fish to the underside of the CD case / glass.
Carefully do an outline of the fish using the clear paint ( paint is whitish until it dries) on the upperside of glass and then fill in the centre - about 1/2mm thick. Leave a couple of hours until dry - add a few more layers and try and create a good profile of the body thinner at head and tail. On the last layer sprinkle a liberal amount of glitter on the top half of body, and a thin layer on bottom half and tail.
Leave to dry. Do the back spots on the body using the Black Paint. Leave to dry.
Prepare the Eyes: Mike Connors did an excellent article on this a few years back on sexyloops forum - I dont think its still on it.
Take 6 sequins (2 required, 4 extra for cock ups) and place them on glass, curved side up. You can do these a number of ways. 1. Place a drop of the black paint in the centre of the sequin, leave to dry, then fill the rest of the sequin with the clear paint and bingo. Alternative is to place a coloured bead in the centre of sequin and cover with clear paint, a little awkward, can however create eyes where the bead bulges out from centre.
Great fun playing with various beads and sequins.
Back to the fish, using the water colours paint the body. I used a blade and the black glass paint to do the fins and the tail. Put a drop of clear paint where u want to place the eye, place one of your preformed eyes on this drop. Let the whole lot dry. Carefully coat the entire body with a thin layer of clear paint, dont mess too much as the watercolour paint will smudge all over the place.
Carefully using a thin sharp blade peel the fish of the glass, reverse and repeat above for second side.
It will take 3 or four nights to do the job due to the time required for the drying process.
