Default For the glory of greenwell

Thought I'd tie some greenwell's up useing different coloured pearsalls silk and useing snipe wing feathers for the wings instead of mallard, so I guess you could call these variants of the GG. The pearsalls is waxed but I left the silk on the heads unwaxed on some of them to show the true colour. All tied on kamasan dry fly hooks size 14 apart from the top one which is size 12. I think my favourite has to be the primrose.

Thanks for looking and any comments greatly appreciated.

To my eye i would say the 1st one had the best proportion but would have probably put another turn or so of hackle at the back of the wing.
This is just my opinion as I have only played about with these patterns before and have never fished them in anger.

You should see the size of my greenwell hackles dabhoy I think about 2cm long but I didn't have any longer ones both in hackle fibre length and hackle length otherwise there'd be alot more turns on them......excuses escuses.

Thanks emerger1981 I agree its long but you should have seen the pattern I was copying from, boy was that long. But lets just say this is the long winged greenwell variant.

Thanks everyone for your positive remarks.

Some nice winging wingman.
I much prefer the original primrose silk with cobblers. Caught quite a few fish on all GG disguises, dry, dry with wing, wet with wing and spider.

Nice winging on number 1 and 2, Mark, the others are a wee bit skinny for my tastes. You could do with a bit more light in the photo's too. If you can find it, give Pearsalls #11 a shot too. Definitely worth a go.

Thanks wobblyface and Alex, yes I need alot more practice at wings as I don't usually tie them, a few on wets maybe thats all but wil have to put more time in trying to get it right. I will hopefully be acquiring a better lighting setup soon as I'm just useing my maglamp which is not really strong enough, thanks for the advice. this was really just to show the different effects produced useing different colours for the body so I wasn't concentrating that much on proportions.....excuses again
