Default Howorths yellow spider & blackybrown

Bit of a contrast here, howorths yellow spider tied on a kamasan B525 size 14 and blackybrown tied on a kamasan B175 size 12.

Thanks emerger1981, I used pearsall's yellow no.4 for the spider which is the stronger yellow of the pearsall's range.

The above spider is tied with waxed thread. Sometimes I wax the pearsalls and sometimes I don't as I'm aware it really alters the colour of the silk. Some schools of thought say wax it some don't, a big authority on spiders whom I won't mention here, once told me to always wax the silk as it will eventually rot. I don't fully agree with that, because of the fragile nature of a spiders makeup (sparse hackle, light silk, very lightly varnished) they get fairly well chewed the first time you catch something anyway, so I think they will disintegrate more through that before the silk rots. Though some spider patterns do call for the silk to be waxed as the silks colour changes when emersed in water.
Sorry emerger1981 I know you probably know all this already but thats my take on it.

Nice work Mark. I've never been able to get my head around North Country Spiders, too much of a faff for me.

Thanks stig stuart and seanie, yes spiders tend to be a love em or hate em kind of fly but I luv em i suppose becos of a long family tradition that goes back to my yorkshire farmer ancestors who liked to fettle the old brownies on a quiet sunday afternoons break from milking the coos.
