Better stock up on supplies while you can!

Feathers-in-the-hair craze creates run on fishing shops - Inside Bay Area

Quote:
Where to get those hard-to-find supplies for feather hair extensions? The local fly-fishing store, of course.

Fishing retailers been bombarded with people seeking the scarce type of chicken plumage many women have been weaving, dyeing, and placing in their hair as part of a hot trend.

"We get anywhere from five to a dozen phone calls each day from women asking for these feathers," said Steve Oualline, a salesman at Bob Marriott's Flyfishing Store in Fullerton for 15 years.

"We've had some people saying they've been doing it for two or three years. It's really creating a run on the feathers," Oualline said. "I had one lady who wanted to place a $10,000 order. We had to tell her, 'We'd love to do that, but we can't get them.'"..........................(more)

There was a previous thread on the subject :

Hackle: Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

Guess it'll soon start here as well.

I heard about this a while back but fortunately I have plenty of genetics
I can also get by without using them and using general capes like indian and chinese. While I can see this may be a problem for some people who want to tie lots of dry flies.

Default Hackles

For once being a oap pays off as I have only a half cape of genetic hackles-the rest being indian capes which do well for the flies I tie and I could only afford them anyway. No way could I ever pay more than £20.oo for one genetic whiting or whatever cape.
