Default Correction on the Bottle Washer

Hi,

I am guilty of a horrible error. My reference (from memory) of a midge pattern by Gary Borger called the "Bottle Washer" was an absolute error. I apologize deeply for this error - especially to "emerger1981" who has been so patient with me and my error.

The true originator of the pattern is actually Jason Borger. Jason is Gary's son and is famous in his own right for flyfishing/fly tying. He was the one doing the actual casting in the movie "A River Runs Through It". He has written much about both fly fishing and fly tying.

Below is an excerpt of a blog from the magazine Field and Stream:

"As with mayflies, the emerger stage of midges is very important. And once gain, simplicity rules the day with the patterns here.

The first design, the Bottle-Brush Midge Emerger, uses a body-length trailing shuck of Antron sparkle yarn (tied sparsely--remember these are midges), followed by a body constructed entirely of tightly wound cock hackle. But here’s the trick: The hackle fibers are trimmed to one-third to one-half hook gap width BEFORE the hackle is wound on. You can wind the hackle on, then trim, but it’s much faster to pre-trim, then wind.

The resultant body looks like a tiny bottle-brush, and imitates the emerging, but as yet unfurled, midge adult. I usually employ grizzly or black hackle for Bottle-Brush Midge Emergers as those two colors nicely mimic most midges."

Again, my apologies to all - especially "emerger1981" who says that the pattern does not imitate the emergent midge................

my tying attempt at the non-existent stage of the emerging midge:

Thing is, emerger1981 didn't challenge who's pattern it was. He challenged the pattern itself. He said such an emergent stage didn't exist. He even questioned why I couldn't find size 20 hackle. The pattern calls for hackle cut to 1/3 the gape of the hook

For the last time: It is NOT my pattern. It is a pattern belonging to Jason Borger. He maintains that it represents the final emergent stage of the midge, still having the trailing shuck.

You can attack my tying abilities, but not me for having desinged the pattern. I did not. Jason Borger did.

I think I can put you in touch with him so you can straighten him out as to it not representing any stage of a midge...........
