You don't have to subscribe to the magazine to peek into the different sections. Better yet, they have a free monthly news letter (via e-mail) that's quite good.

You could also try the Fly Tying Forum. This is an American forum, that has links to the Hatches magazine, that includes a fly pattern database. It naturally has a bias towards N.American patterns, but there is a lot of good info available.
