Default The Oppo - Needed ?

Hi all

Think the jury was out on this fly again but thought I would ask...

Am now at the end of a tying season in which i made far too many flies but am left with one more to tie and am not sure if its worth it....The Oppo ( Jeremy Lucas' kinked hares ear body emerger )

I'm kind of fed up with tying at this stage but want to finish things right if you know what i mean. Dont want to miss a trick.......

Are these worth it, given that i have plenty of Klinks done?

Thanks .....

Default Yes,yes and yeas.

In a word yes.

They work when Klinks don't and did very well at the end of last season for me for trout then into the Grayling season.

At the risk of sounding like Richardw and hijacking this thread i tie piles and piles of them for clients. The smaller sized 16s and 18s seem the most popular. Of course Oppos are availbale from other sources other than myself

Edit:-
Maybe its just North of the border Phil

Phil think I'm going to go with Mark on this one, if only just to try them i guess, but am open to other opinions out there ........

Either way I've tied a bloody sackful of Klinks, CDC and Elk, CDC Sedges, Sedge Emergers, Spider Sedges, Griffiths, JT Olives, Roman Moser Elks, ( ok i went overboard on sedges, given that i didnt know how they even flew last season ) , F flies, Greenfly, size 24 micro black dries ( Proctor ) and finally those lethal dry Spiders......

No Spinners, but the spiders may cover those and i never use them anyway ....

Looking forward to putting the kit away!

Just a thought bit don't you think there is a gap in your box for upwings (Olives) other than the excellent JT Olive and the F flies i don't think there are any specific representations for Olive Duns? Maybe an Adams parachute or two......It always appears in the "If you only had 3 Flies" thread and rightly so? If its a pain doing both the brown and grizzle cock hackles on them you will get away with just the grizzle maybe?
If your rivers dont have upwings then ignore me

Stop that Buzz, leave my fly box alone!

I have some Adams tied by Phil last season but to be honest the JT Olive murdered all other comers last season, except for the Griffiths. The Spiders are Snipe and Yellow, and float in and one the surface ( they have that waterproofer stuff in them , and the tiniest touch of gink ) and they were lethal. Any suggestions for Olive Duns, other than Adams, now that you have destroyed my dreams?

Hi spider , I found them very good last summer although chiefly in a duo set up and tied on B100 rather then how JL prescribed , I have noticed him mention another pattern a great deal the Muller if I remember rightly , I would be interested to know wether anybody is familiar with it and is there a dressing in the local , a thorax dun would look good on your list also.

Maybe i'm just a bit knackered but i have now just got two Oppo's done in size 14/16 . For some reason they aint the easiest to tie, although I've never liked tying parachutes.

Incidentally I left out the Hares Lug and Plover which i am going to fish as a dry / damp like the other Spiders.

Worth a look - Tiemco 103 BL or the lightest hook you can find, and use Watershed too.....
