Default Can anyone name this fly Please?

I was recently asked to tie some "bibios" wet flies for a forumite who I'll obviously not name and the person requested a fly with an orange body. I duly tied up the requested patterns of bibios, but the forumite is unhappy and wishes to return the flies which he's obviously entitled to do and I'll refund his money paid. The fly he described to me sounds more like the wet spider . His description-Body-orange thread or dubbing, Rib-pearl tinsel Head Hackle-Grey Partidge. He then states "no tail, body hackle or black hackle at the head. Please if anyone else wishes to buy flies from me "get the NAME of the pattern correct as I tied what I believe is a "Bibio" top dropper or bob fly on a team of three and NOT the north country spider fly which was described to me. Thank You

His description of the fly he wants seems vague. It seems a mish-mash of potentialy several designs. He is obviously not fully conversant with tying techniques. No suprise as he is asking someone else to tie for him.

Seems to me, you being the the one who will tie them, needed to make certain what he wanted. You obviously did not.

Default Thanks Christ27

All part of the learning process I suppose as I must admit I should have recognised this fly from his description and if it isn't a "partridge and orange" he meant then I'll be very surprised. Not to worry if no one else wants them I'll use them myself.

Partridge and orange and bibio have little correlation. Oh well, swallow the pill. You did-fair play. Keep tying .

Chris.

Pearly Partridge and Orange. Simples. Not only should you have kept his money, you should have fined him for being numb, and to teach him to get his dressings right.

Yep, you'll learn mate...

Money up-front, let them supply dressing and/or photo, or be happy to go with what you tie.... or tie them themselves.

Thanks for the support, Scratch, but part of the problem was mine in not making sure HE knew the fly he described as the one he actually wanted. Just shows one is still learning-even at the ripe old age of 66.

If anyone orders a non-specific pattern from me, or there are options available to the given dressing I will send a or several samples beforehand. That way I can get it right or wrong, & modify if needed before committing to tie.

Or Byron you could do say three samples and take a photo of each then send them in a pm to him with the dressing ingredients for each fly included as A B C and he chooses which one or ones he prefers and pms you with his choice. This would save you messing around with postage and undue costs.

And you could roll out a 200 mile long red carpet, crawl on hands and knees, with a rose poking out of your arse, deliver them by hand and beg for approval. For £1.00 a fly Mark?

It's dead simple, either the customer knows what they want and tells you or SENDS YOU THE PICTURE, or they don't. If you're not sure what you're ordering, then you can't be sure what you're gonna get.
