Default Fun to tie

Fun to tie but has anyone else found these more suggestive type flies less effective than traditional loch flies. Maybe its the way I fish them, but the more imitative flies do not seem to do the business on the lochs I fish.
I will give this one a go in the shallows at the begining of the season.

Never tried scuds in the lochs just the odd hares ear or such so more nymphs.
I can tell you photographed that today a bit bright for the sea trout.

Spot on dabhoy. Thought I would put the good advice into practice. Simple really when it is pointed out - keep my shadow and that of the camera off the fly. I waited till the sun had moved. Still got work to do to improve both photography and fly tying. Not happy with background for example.
I have success on a gold bead hares ear at begining of season. I thought they were taking it for cased caddis but now that you mention it maybe shrimp?

Yes, a bit bright for the sea trout and there is a big sea. But the sun and milder weather have got me going. Just nipped out and took a snap of one of my gold bead hare's ears. One from the box. OK its a bit dead as Cap,n Fishy would say. Lights going a bit after 4pm.
I know cased caddis do not have tails, but I liked the look. Also the lime green thread seemed to work well.Click the image to open in full size.

I'm sure someone said on here before that the lifelike imitative patterns didn't give any better results than suggestive ones and that unless you were tying them for self satisfaction the rewards weren't proportional to the extra effort involved.
