Nice blog Richard
I love winged flies mainly of the traditional wet type using either slips or rolled feathers. I know they get battered but they are aesthetically pleasing on the eye. I know there are other methods of winging such as you have shown on your blog but not the style that I tend to do with my type of fishing apart from the like of sedges etc.

I can see why Deer hair and aero are used to provide bouyancy for a fly and in some traditional flies, for visibility. But for the majority of DRY flies is it for the benefit of the tyer's pleasure, tradition or ego?
