Thumbs up cdc

Cdc is not that expensive. Check out some of the retailers on the forum. You can get natural & dyed feathers.

to put it clearer.. dub the body with whatever then use a dubbing loop with CDC over the top then shell it

CDC feathers give you more movement. Both in nymphs and dries. They float better due to the grease content so I would go sparse on them in sinking imitations. They aren't that cheap because each duck has only a handful. When I use them for dry flies I keep the fluff for dubbing. You can cut it up for dubbing bodies or use longer fibers in a dubbing loop to imitate legs (larvae, gammarus, water hoglouse...).

Regards,
Johan

Johnan, it's the actual structure of the feather rather than it's "grease content" that makes c.d.c. so buoyant. They will not float a leaded Czech style, or for that matter any other leaded nymph as there simply isn't enough volume in the feathers to counteract the mass & weight of the lead.

Even if you add grease, the same applies.

Hello Arkle,
you're right of course, on a leaded pattern it won't make any difference.

Thanks for the info on the buoyancy, didn't know that.

Regards,
Johan
