Default Variation on a classic nymphers fly!

Variation in that I have not used the correct hook I think the man himself used a wet fly hook. I have used b110 grubbers.
I use less PT fibres , he calls for 10 to 12 and sights keeping the fly sparse. May work on a sz 8 but 10 is as big as I go.
As I say I use more like 5 to 6 and it still produces a fly that is 'well fed' compared to my usual buzzers.
Also I add a little guard hair the the blue rabbit under fur thorax.

Anyway, I use this now, on the point to anchor buzzers on the droppers and fished round the breeze. Takes a good number of fish.
Comments welcomed.
Cheers,
Mark.

Arthur used his fly in all sizes, curved hooks weren't really around much in his time but I expect it's quite likely he would have at least tried them. I've seen a size 4 longshank version before now, not one from the man himself, but I gather he had some in one of his boxes. I know he caught several salmon on the standard pattern.

Hi Mark
I use curved hooks for classic nymphs all the time.....may even say that they work better then on normal straight hooks

nice flies Mark ,i use similar when flexi floss style buzzers dont seem to be producing but i dont want to go to a diawl bach.they give a bit of movement and seem to work better higher in the water or on the drop.I know what you mean about the thickness of the body-i look at mine sometimes and worry they are too fat!Early season i have more sucess with black hearl and like hares ear in the thorax for the size 12s

All the best Nick

I am with Joni on this, I prefer the "natural" look of curved hooks, especially on a sparse fly. I have a few curved PTN's that I tied and they catch just as well.
