Default Hares Mask Smell...

Hi all, I'm a new newbie when it comes to fly tying so have just used a hares mask tonight for the first time to tie a GRHE (I've avoided it up until now because I had no idea what I was doing with it!). The first thing I noticed was the smell - I know these things are from dead animals but the smell really wasn't pleasant, it wasn't really strong but my other half could smell it too (she was at the other side of the room). Is this normal or is there something wrong with it? I tie in the same room as we and the baby sleep so I don't want any infested materials in there!

Any advice appreciated.

Rob.

If it is a veniards mask it will stink as the packets usually have a few crystals still in it give it an airing somewhere for a couple of days and it should clear up.

Got it from my local tackle shop, it's a Veniards product so should have been prepared properly? Can't see any crystals in the packet with the mask, there are crystals in some of my other packets but not this one

That's good enough for me, I can cope with the smell as long as I know there is nothing nasty going on with it.

Cheers, Rob.

Jimmy you drinking that little girl stuff again? bad side affects....
Robbie, as AL says its prolly the moth balls & borax. If it smells rotten, then that is a different issue.
