Hi

I think Black Magic's are sometimes tied on b100's. If you are tying Klinks use klinkhammer hooks. Speak with Toby at funkyflytying15BNX Klinkhammer Extreme :: Funky Fly Tying He should have the hooks you will be after. Just remember a size 12 is very big (only in the klink hooks). Go for the next size or 2 down.

Cheers

Alan

Size 16 in Partridge Extreme Kinkhammer is about size 14 gape, but a very long kinked and curved very fine shank. Also £3.75 for 25! I like them, but just wish they were a bit cheaper!

Nowt wrong with using a Kami B100 though

Agreed, i bought some of those hooks in a size 12 a while back and they are huge, they should warn you that a size 12 is like a size 6 on a normal hook .

I just use B100's but technically its not a klinkhammer then .

Noooo AL! The B100 is already a decent hook for klinks. If you kink the shank of a curved hook, (if its possible without breaking), the hook point will be compromised by closing the gape of the curved hook. This will severely limit the hooking capabilities! OK this is just theory, but it makes sense to me.

Kinking a third of the length of a straight hook by 30 degrees is ok. Jeremy Lucas uses this on his Oppo flies.

Another hook is the Fulling Mill 'Living Larva', a gently curved, but quite long shanked hook. If you kink the shank a bit it is similar to the Partridge extreme klink.

PS the price of these for 50 or 100 on that site is excellent!

I bought various sizes of the klinkhamer extreme hooks including some size 8's as I wanted to try some big ones...
When they arrived I was a bit shocked! They are massive.
I now have some klinks the size of dragonflies that won't fit in my fly box!
Can't wait to give em a try though
Apparently they have been used to great effect for salmon fishing.
