Default Question on how to use cdc?

I'm going to try Davie McPhails cdc dun(in the beginners cdc swap 6) given I've never used cdc or dubbing I am either crazy or very brave, his video's make it all look very easy (if only)

I did try the technique he used as I had a few cdc feathers I got from a mate, can I ask, do you need to use the whole feather or can you strip fibres off and use them ? I presume the whole feather was used to help with the upward curvature on the cdc???

Any help appreciated.

Pete

If you catch the tips in at the back you can wrap it forward to make a body. You can do the same but cutting the fibres off the feather and dubbing it on.

You can use the split thread technique to make a hackle/leggy portion of the body (prob best to youtube this...)

You can lay the feathers on top to make a wing a la f-fly.

You can always tie it in as a traditional hackle (I think...)

Depends on the length of the feather and size of fly you are tying, you just need to use as much of the feather as needed for the correct length.

So you can either just measure it up and tie in or you could strip some of it off to make it easier to tie it in.

On the flies I've been tying for the swap I have stripped some of the fibers off as the cdc I have is like 2 inches long.
