Default Strpping Peacock Quills

I wonder if any forumite out there has any easier method of stripping quills from peacock eye feathers. I obtained some great large feathers from a friend in america last summer, but my efforts just don't come out looking like I think they should. I wet the quill, then use a soft eraser to strip off the barbules, but they do Not come out looking yellowy like they're usually pictured. Should they look that way or is the dull grey the way they should look? the fish don't seem to mind what colour they are, but I feel I'm doing something wrong.

Default Soft pencil eraser!

The easiest method of stripping the quills is by holding one end & rubbing a soft pencil eraser over them. Strips then clean in no time, but make sure it's a very soft pencil eraser only!..

I no longer use any rubber for stripping quills........it takes far too lang. I was tipped off by Watsons Fancy on here about using your nail to strip them.......it's far quicker. Takes some practice but brilliant once you have the method sorted.

Google Translate
For the german translation, google is ideal

Just open the German site & translator and copy and paste the instructions.

Good luck

A bit of blue tack on the stripping surface, and your thumb on top, will hold the quill and stop it slipping as you strip.

Never had any problems using either an eraser or my nail.
The very best marked quills come from old peacocks (over 5 or 6) I think it is. Lucian is your man on here if you are looking to buy some.
