Slightly guilt-tripped by the other thread about people not contributing pictures, I thought I would try to do something different. I've just set up another planted aquarium, so I thought I would see how some recent flies look underwater. The flies are nothing particularly good, but it's always interesting to see how the translucency changes when materials are wet.
Quite challenging to photograph, even with fairly intense lighting, and although the glass was cleaned before filling, it's still not really clean enough. If I could have suspended the flies further into the tank, I would probably have been able to reduce the effect, but as it is the mucky glass is still quite close to the plane of focus. It's also difficult to suspend the flies so that they are easy to get parallel to the plane of focus.
Anyway, this is the tank:
And these are the flies:
I have taken the liberty of rotating them into the orientation I would like to imagine they fish in when used in flowing water - I suspect they do nothing of the sort!
My word, isn't that Frog Hair fluorocarbon incredible, totally invisible underwater as you can see...
