Default First Muddler- Help needed.

Just tied my first ever muddler, it's rubbish, i know . Not the best picture but should be good enough

Tied it without following any step by steps or anything so i had no idea what i was doing. Looking for some help/advice on how to tie them.

Thanks.

Its quite good for a first attempt, does take a bit of practice. I would suggest searching 'muddler' on you tube and watching a few videos including Dave's sunburst kate muddler.

Thanks, I tried another using the techniques in that video but couldn't get the deer hair to roll round and form the collar the way he did. When I try it, it doesn't roll and the collar only forms on the top and sides

Yes that is common when first starting tying them , if you can try leaving the section where you want the head to be as bare hook , it will spin very easy then . Also take a full very slack 1 and a 1/2 wraps of thread around the hook and hair then as you pull tight it will spin .

Hope that makes sense as is hard to explain in words rather than showing someone . Just keep at it you will get it , it will just click one day like riding a bike

The problem was the thread was slipping when i tried to make the collar roll round the hook, but some wax fixed that. I was already using wax but must not have been enough .

Here's my second attempt

Head isn't the best, my curved scissors are so cr@p that they cant even cut thread so had to make do with straight ones.

Thats the one Not sure about using wax as I never use it but if it works for you then great ..

As for the head , well thats the way the fish like it , I used to trim all mine like they were show flies but now I just hack into them blindly , rougher the better IMHO
