Just trying out tying this variation of the classic pattern, still needs a bit more work on it me thinks.

Im not sure the pattern lends it self to what you are trying as the tail would be a lot shorter and more turns of hackle down towards the hook shank.
I will be interested to see how you get on with evolving it though.
