tying a dabbler

when tying a dabbler do u use pheasant tail cloak and tail or dyed bronze mallard flank cloak and tail ?
or does it matter what u use?

If you want it 'correct', then it's Pheasant tail for the tail, and Mallard for the cloak.

Dyed PT can be very 'brittle' though, so if I want some colour in the tail then I'll use cock hackle fibres, rather than have the dyed Mallard crack off.

Most dabbler I tie have pt tail and bronze mallard cloak, I do occasionally try other things though but never think it looks as good.

i dont tie very good ones, but the way iv been taught as the "correct" way is pt tail and bm cloak too, but like rob i fisn PT too easily nipped off so i use cock hackle fibres too, but i cant see how it would really matter, or is PT less mobile than BM, it might not have the same..... you know....pulsing i think is the word im after.....movement
