Default Dry sedge suggestions ?

Have been knocking up some interesting sedge pupa's and emergers and have put some nice possibilities together.

However need to put some dry sedges together and need suggestions.

- Does the CDC and elk cover sedges - i assume so with that shape ( have tied some of these, and they worked well for me at end of last season - nice fly , although not as good a floater as i woukld have thought )

Second idea - Ollie Edwards CDC Bubble Sedge.....anyone use this much ( Otter, you have a pm days ago....) and how good is it?

I did try to tie Ollie Edwards ( love that man!!) Tape Wing Caddis, but its difficult to fully centralise the wing. unless the dubbing is perfectly even....

Incidentally, should all adult caddis patterns have the green egg sack at the end of the body?

SBS for the NDS (Nondescript Sedge) is here.

It can be tied in any size. It's a caricature type of fly to suggest it's any variety of sedge fly by the use of exaggeration.

No the one with green egg sac should be the female Grannom.

I've had a lot of success with this Egg Hog pattern I devised for The Fly Fishing Forum "Hog Swap" organised by Greenock last year.

The CDC and Elk simple version is excellent I think, and floats very well for me (I used it a lot for top fly in duo set, as well as on its own last year, after Kev - Arthur Wellesley - put me on to it). BUT - are you using yearling elk? that makes a difference. Also tied on very light barbless dry hook (Tiemco or Grip). I was using Grip 11011BL and found them much stronger than they looked - they even handled hard fighting 'bows and blues from Watendlath Tarn very effectively when they took a liking for that pattern (and those fish pull!).
