Default Clan Chief Hedgehog

Here's a Clan Chief inspired Hedgehog. I'm starting to tie up a box for my summer project, I'm hoping to catch my first sea trout from the sea (on a fly, had them on a mepps). This is one of my first 'surface attractor' patterns for the box.

I wish I'd stuck to natural deer hair on it's own for the head / wing and I only had belly hair in black which is too coarse but the general feel is what I was aiming for.

Any comments greatfully received - Steve

That's a corker of a fly. I'll be having a go at copying it but I don't think it'll be up to your standards.

Now then Steve, thats a plan!
Sea trout from the sea on a surface/dry fly.
Had a few on medicine type streamers but never thought of trying for them on the surface.
The place I fish in the Clyde estuary has loads of fish showing by leaping clear of the surface. Not really sure what they are up to but a surface fished fly might do the trick

Cheers gents;

Roll cast - yes, mixed down the back, it took ages to do, and it isn't too obvious so future ones might not have the mixed hair. Oh and don't sneeze when you have 3 piles of de-fluffed deer hair on your table it goes everywhere!!!

Graham - I don't do a lot of sea trouting, mainly restricted to a few days a year in Uist, but we're having at least 3 weeks there this year so going to give it a bash. I've read quite a few articles about fishing the sea pools there and it sounds like fun. If the tide happens to be right around dusk then a muddler on the bob with a 'normal' fly on the point seems the done thing. Fish for sea trout as the tide is going down, then get the sea gear out for flatties on the way up - seems like a plan to me.
