what kind of material is used for the underside of the body? is it a tinsel?

Not a tinsel. Looks like some kind of plastic type stretchy business to me mate.

It is constructed using a weaving technique, with the plastic underside interlocking with the wire rib.

yes!! I think it's a plastic flat tinsel; I remember a similar produtc from UNI; I think was used for weaving technique the plastic and fishing line (fluorocarbon).
