Nothing wrong with them, the bottom ones perfect, top ones just a bit bulky in the thorax but should catch fish

They will work now worries .

Top one thorax needs slightly less and both the tails are just a weeeeeee bit long . But this will not stop them working and will not mean they catch less fish ....

Very nice , keep it up

Agreed. I'd be more than happy to fish with those. Good job.

The long tail on the PTN isn't traditional, but I tie them that way for stillwaters where pond/lake olives do have a longer tail than you'd expect.

(Wee bit of beard hackle butts sticking out by the eye on the diawl bach? Counsel of perfection there and me being waaay too picky!)

Thanks for the replies.

I mostly tie buzzers for fishing stillwaters so I'm still learning to judge the proper length of tails, wings etc on other types of flies.

I think the peacock herl I used for the thorax on the ptn is a bit thick so i guess I'll just have to use less and see if they turn out better.

Default Flies

They are really good attempts and both will catch fish, i would however reduce the amount of herl on the thorax on the cruncher and make the body of the Diawl Bach lighter and make them a bit thinner on the body. Try adding a bit of flash in the cheek area with some holgraphic or pearl etc tinsel on both flies, this will give them a target or hot spot if you like for the fish.

Well done and keep tying

Graeme.

Default Flies.

Thats a bit better. Have you had a look at Dave Macphails youtube channel, it is very good for teaching you how to tie all the the top patterns and a few oldies.

Graeme.
