Firstly if this is in the wrong place then Admins please feel free to move the posting. Also if this posting in someway is against the rules then I apologise in advance for it and feel free to delete the posting.
I have setup an auction site for people to be able to list their fly tying patterns for free for sale. Yes for free (so hopefully not breaking any rules by mentioning it here) there are no listing fees what so ever.
Why would I do this? Well it seems to me that there is some serious talent here and I am sure people would be more than willing to pay for some of the patterns being tied (I know I would), and there seems to be a lack of places where these could be sold without the overhead of having to setup your own website etc... Sure you could sell them on e-bay, however the thing that bites me about e-bay is that for items which have relatively low retail value the listing fees they charge really do prohibit the casual fly tier from using them, I'm sure even the semi-profesional tier might feel the same way.
So seeing as I already have the hosting space and more space than I know what to do with I figured why the hell not put something together which would provide people with the opportunity of potentially making some extra pennies from their hard work and love of tying fly patterns (fly tying material is unfortunately not free).
The site is by no means on the same level of functionality as e-bay, it's pretty simplistic and allows people to list items in various categories and set buy-now prices etc.. I think it most likely has enough functionality built into it to cover the basics.
This may be a good idea then again everyone may well think it sucks too, but hey if you don't throw it out there and have a go you will never know.
The site can be found at:
Fly Auction
I'll confess upfront that it is not the most pretty site out there in terms of graphics etc... but I do plan on putting some work into it as and when time permits. Also right now it is pretty sparse on the listings front, it was just setup about 20min ago.
Again, if this is being posted in the wrong place or this breaks the rules then please feel free to move/delete it. I'm just looking at giving something to the community which some people might find usefull.
