Default Thompsons Water Seal for FLOATANT ?????????

Has anybody ever used this (Thompsons water seal) for your freshly tied dry flies. If so:

1. How does it work compared to Water Shed and products like that?

2. Does is leave oil or stain deposits in water when you fish a fly coated with it?

Please comment if you know of any other household ideas as the closest fly shop to me is not very close but the hardware store is.

Many Thanks!
