Default Hook sizes in J Veniards Lake and Reservoir

Anyone know what are the different sizes he uses throughout the book, he uses size 15 hooks, I presume this is between a 16 and 14 in size.

ALso he mentions no.1 and 2 hooks in places but unsure what the equivilent is in normal hook size?

thanks
AL

When the book was written, there were several different hook scales in use. The "Redditch" was the older & more popular one & is virtually the same as the one used today. The "New" scale was brought in to replace the Redditch, but never really caught on, so the industry stayed with it.

Tiemco, who weren't around (in the U.K.) then, are making some patterns of hooks with in-between or odd numbers.

There are other sources of info, but if you try A Fly Fishing History, by Andrew Herd under the special features section, 1. Hooks that'll be a start for you
