The ribbon is tight down, although on the claret bumble it does look a bit loose at the tail, as for the ribbing the flat tinsel is an old metal type and the other is gold twist, even if they do get chewed atleast it would have been woth it, cheers b

if you'r going to rib your flies with tinsel go over the tinsel with some small coloured wire,it will make them last longer only a suggestion it will mean catching more fish without having to change flies, atb craig

I'm with you on that one Boorod. However, oval tinsel would be a good half-way house between wire and flat tinsel. More durable than unprotected flat tinsel, and in the case of the Claret Bumble, is the 'proper' dressing anyway

Hi

I use medium oval french for ribbing on most of my wets, as those wild Brownies can be like Piranha

However i use opal mirage on my wet hopper pattern it proved a real killer of wild brownies last season, rainbows loved it too. I tend to fish it on the point slow fig 8 ...........arm wrenching action follows tie a few up and see

Hook: B175 size 12 (barb crushed)

Thead: Uni 8/0 Black

Rib: Opal mirage (med)

Body: Black seals fur

Hackle: Cock hackle Black

Legs: Black phesant fibres (x3 each side tied in underneath)

One of my most successful brown trout flys all season was the Clan Chief, however i like to tie mine bushy and use ultra soft rook/crow hackle for the head
