Default Anyone tied this fly before?

Realistic artistic fly tying, step by step cased caddis flies

Anyone tied these before I start burning some feathers? Is it worth the effort?

Thanks
AL

You'll probably need a bit of practice to get that one like Graham does.

Worth the effort???.....If you want to bring out your artistic prowess yes of course....They are beautiful creations, and learning to tie such creations will enhance your overall fly tying skills no end

If you are tying them for fishing purposes.....Forget it They will have very little movement and whilst the may look indistinguishable from the real thing, they certainly won't move or act like the real thing in the water......An impressionistic pattern with some movement in the material make up, will out fish a realistic pattern with no movement, in almost every situation.

The few exceptions may be patterns fished dry at times, and whilst I am not trying to knock the realistic fly tying boyos (indeed I've done my fair share in the past) for many of them are absolute fantastic tiers, who score 10/10 for their artistic impression, but for practical fishing purposes, if you are looking to tie flies that are consistent fish takers, IMHO you should forget realistics.

Yes all very nice but I can't help feeling this comes under "Model Making" rather than true Fly Tying .
