Default PARTRIDGE SLD dry barbless

I am in the process of tying a box of barbless dries for the coming season,I have seen these hooks reviewed and was impressed by their shape and they are remarkably sharp ,However I am not so sure as to their ability to hold their shape during a good scrap, (where I fish there is always the possibility of conecting with a brute of a brown or a good white trout on a small dry.)Have any of you experience of these hooks in this gauge. thanks PJ.

They are nice and strong for there size and wire weight.
They are the main hook i use for standard dries now.
Check out the SUD as well.

Default Partridge sld dry hooks

The partridge hooks are good,I prefer the tiemco 103bl's for dries.

Good hooks, I like them a lot. They are strong, but brittle so I'd imagine they would break before they opened out. I tried bending some in the vice for a particular spinner pattern and they didn't like it at all - broke very easily......that said, I'd very much doubt this would be an issue in the course of normal fishing situations.

Equal in quality to - and cheaper than - the ridiculously overpriced BL103s

Most people still seem to be fishing barbed hooks these days rather that barbless and they are still relatively the first choice and most fly stockists will be tying on barbed hooks. Some maintain that there is a difference in hook strength between barbless and barbed hooks but I think this must be hard to prove and I personally have not noticed much difference.

I used to tie with these but as Matt said they are very brittle, I had one break on a take, didn't even feel the fish! Not good!! I only use Kamasan hooks now, B401 for dry flies, micro barb which I flatten before use. If you're still set on the SLD I have a few boxes of them I'd be happy to pass on for a reasonable price!

I agree.

I have strightened out many 103BLs. I am yet to do that with an SLD. They are great hooks.

There is no doubt that the SLD has a lovely shape and has a sharpness that could only be described as evil , this razor keenness could make the point vulnerable to breakage if it were to clip a boulder or such while casting ,it may be that they are not given to longevity it would be a shame to find out on a four or five pound brownie though. Thanks for all your input though. PJ
