Default Which Fly Tying Vice & What Kit?

I would like to start tying my own dry fly's and have looked at a bewildering selection of vices and associated bits of kit over the past few weeks to the point where I am now totally confused

Vice prices seem to range from around £10.00 up to £150 and more! If possible I would prefer not to have to spend lots of dosh on an expensive vice however are cheap vices any good? Also is one type of vice better than another particularly for a newbie like me?

Then there is the other bits and pieces, tools, threads etc, is it best to buy these separately or should I buy a kit?

I am not expecting to be tying anything other than dry fly's as it will be dry fly fishing I will be concentrating on when the season starts, consequently I do not want to waste money on tools and other bits and pieces I will not need.

All advice and suggestions will be very much appreciated

Please use the search facility at the top of the page on the r/h side, this subject is covered virtually every week.

Go to The FDG & see if there's a branch near you, if there is please join it, then you can try various members vices without any pressure.

My advice would be to buy the basic tools and materials for the flies you fish. If you get a kit you'll get a lot of stuff you may never use.
