Question Black River klink ?

Hi Guys

I really need to get to grips with dry fly tying and indeed fishing..........

Toward this end had a bash at a simple Black klink for the River Carron next season.

Whilst i love tying nymph, wets, lures etc im not keen on tying Drys ........

How did i do ? I have the urge to rib it with opal mirage ?

Looks fine to me. Small opal, a fine silver or red wire...

Nice fly, must tie some similar myself, although I think I'd have the same urge regarding a rib

My normal flys are completely submerged so its a dry to me mate

Whats the thinking re adding fine opal mirage for ribbing ??

Im planning on use pink or orange for the post as ive heard the white post can be hard to see.

i tie them with every colour of post. there are times when,in certain light conditions you even need a black post. they are a great fly, they represent so much but look like nothing. ia for your rib, i feel this fly relies more on its footprint in the surface rather than what hangs underneath.(notice i say "in the surface" not on the surface.) its an emerger!!!

Some days it will work better with a rib, other days it will work better without a rib. Depending on light conditions.

I don't see the need to rib, just more time at the bench. It's cracking just as it is. The fly you have there is one of the very best emergers (dries) for me. In a 14 or 16. Slight difference that I will have HE for the thorax. Also I tie them with fluro orange or green post as well for fading/difficult light.

I use it also to support a nymph when duo fishing. I hang a 16 or 18 off a 14 version. Sweet.
