Default Preparing wings for storage

Hi, I read a previous post a few days ago about treating roadkill or collected animals/birds. I have a similiar question along these lines..

How do you prepare a wing from a collected bird, the question relates more to how to treat the meaty parts as aposed to how to treat mites etc ?

Scrape off all the meat, air fry if possible then put into almost seled poly=bag & m/wave TWICE for 20/30 secs each time. Shake out all debris & put into clean bags. Treat with a bio-friendly spray all over to prevent re-infestation.

Buy some borax off the Internet, make an incision along the "upper arm" of the wing and scrape put as much of the flesh as possible. Pack the cavity with borax and bury the whole wing in borax. Leave for a week. Remove from the borax and scrape out any borax stuck in the cavity. Repeat. Then microwave as per Arkle's instructions.

Thanks for the advice, do you use your household microwave for this or a dedicated one, just wondered in interest of hygeine, not knowing much about borax, is this safe to microwave (remaining residue after treatments) in the same microwave used for food?

thanks

Borax has a similar consistency to table salt & should be shaken/brushed away as much as possible before m/wing the wings.

Place them in separately in clean zip-top bags then m/w them individually, sit them on a plate of some sort & only partially seal the bag. After they've been m/w'ed take them out of the bag, shake off & place them in a NEW clean bag & dispose of old bag.

Shouldn't have any effect on the inside of your norm m/w.

Arkle could you please advise what setting on microwave you would use? Also would you remove meat apart from the area where the wing was removed from carcass? Finally what bio-friendly spray? Apologies for multiple questions but I am expecting a mate to deliver some un-treated wings which have been in his freezer and want to get it right.

A quick google of natural insect proofing sprays will bring up 9,270 results from U.K only.

There are so many different types & powers of microwave's around these days that I can only quote on my own 800watt version. I would do a large-ish wing from say a mallard for 30 & 20 seconds each wing. Smaller wings such as jay 20 & 15 seconds on max. power. Obviously pro-rata for your machine, but if you've a very high power one, then try a lower setting &/or time.
