GSP, denier 75 should cover your needs.
It is slippery but very strong.

Semperfli Nano 12/0 but will bend a B175 in the vice if you apply too much pressure

Other suppliers available, GAC for example (but Ian's cheaper)

What size of fly are you tying?

If it smaller patterns, Moser Powersilk 10/0 is excellent and very strong. Just watch your scissors

Then you don't need a really strong thread.

But I don't want to simply 'slide a pom-pom onto the shank' I want to use Glo-bug yarn. Which, according to the Fly Tying Bible, I need really strong thread for.

Roman Moser do Power silk in 10/0 and 5/0 which is very strong.
Moser also do a carbon thread in 3/0.
I also stock a dyneema thread that is very fine but strong.

Get danvilles monocord, also mind thin thread will cut materials with too much pressure, also can create a pinch point, if you tye in some tinsel it can shear off at the last wrap.
