Default Tiemco 16/0 thread

Anyone used it? How does it compare to Gordon Griffiths 14/0?

Steve,

Is it available in UK? I Have never seen it.

Sheer is one of my favourites and I use it for alot of my tying. But if you are interested in a very fine thread, try Hends Synton. It's a dual fibre, as thin as Spiderweb, but much stronger.

Steve,

I stock the full range of colours of Synton thread in the Flytying Boutique - I will mail you a spool to try out once the post office re-opens, with my compliments.

Kind regards

Not sure if it's in the UK yet. Just read about Charlie Craven using it. (BTW check out this cool fly.) Seems to be readily available in the US now. Cheers Phil. I have a spool of Spiderweb but have basically found it to be more pain than it's worth. As Phil knows, I use the GG Sheer 14/0 a lot, although I've had a lot of problems with it being very poorly spooled - either that or I am doing something very wrong with it. I also don't think it lays particularly flat.

I thought the spooling issue was just my bad luck Steve - terrible stuff for slipping off the edge and in-bedding........but it is for me, the best river fly thread out there and I will continue to use it lovingly!

Two companies spool GG sheer one has good thread lay and the other less so.
If you want a spool of the good stuff let me know and i will post you some.
I have just started distributing it to retailers.

Actually it's interesting just how deceptive the old "ought" system for thread is. Take a look here and compare thread thicknesses between UTC 70, GG Shear, Danville Spiderweb etc. I was surprised to see how thick Spiderweb is.

Now way - we must be interpreting the units incorrectly. There is no way spiderweb is thicker than UTC70. Thicker than the individual filaments maybe, but not the overall thread gauge.

Perhaps UTC is flat but wide. At any rate, Mr Helm provides references for the table. Not being able to measure anything that small, I have no way of testing the table myself.

I became particularly interested in thread thickness versus breaking strain when I started to furl my own leaders recently.

Unfortunately the Tiemco website has next to no information on the thread (no diameter nor even denier)

I could never get any thread to lay flat until I started using my C&F bobbin. Somehow, it makes all my threads lay flat.
