Default Sedge pupa - recommendations needed

Having spent an hour or two messing around with shellback, vinyl rib and nymph skin, I'm no further down the road to tying a proper sedge pupa nymph to scare the fish on my local river this summer.

Anyone else find nymph skin is completely dull, and whilst it makes great segments, even with colour ( eg brown marker on cream / translucent nymph skin ) , it looks very dull. Maybe nail varnish on top would give it some sheen?

My last effort was with amber vinyl rib but it wasnt a fly, more of a play around, and it looks more promising.

Any suggestions for a decent sedge pupa out there ?

Otter ...??

Cheers.....

I use body-flex by lureflash, its quite shiny and comes in claret, olive, green, dark brown and I think light brown, comes in a sheet about 6x2 inches and is easy to use.

You might consider this one. It is made with dubbing, and it has caught a fish or two.

Thanks Jindra aswell. These flies are different to the sort of segmentation i was thinking about but will try them - although i dont have that material for the wingcase ?

Totally agree about the weight at the bottom end of the hook......

Spider,

You can use any wings for the wingcases - snipe, staring, grouse, etc, etc - just give them a wipe with some floo gloo or head cement to set the shape.

very simple sedge pupa and the BEST.

Thread: Brown.
Rib: Fine oval gold tinsel.
Body: Highland Green seals fur.
Palmered body hackle: Light red game or ginger cock tied short in flue and sparse with a good gap between each turn. Bring rib up through body hackle in wide but firm open turns.
Shoulder hackle: two or three turns of short Brown Partridge.

This wont fail, don't bother with complicated patterns that look like sedges to YOU! they may not look like sedges to the FISH. This pattern has movement and light transparency.
