I'm assuming Bigtel has started tying his own flies.

Keep at it, we've all been there when its not going right. Sometimes helps to take a break and have a cuppa and come back fresh rather than getting frustrated.

I started a couple of days ago - I'm not even at the frustrated stage yet - I'm still scratching my head staring at my gear!!
