Default First attempt at czech nymphs. Pls criticise...

Hi there,

So I've seen some beautiful flies tied by forum members. Here is my first attempt at czech nymphs. I've tried to copy Ryacophilia, Hydropsyche and HotSpot from Stuart Minnikin's selection....

...I'm reasonably pleased given they are a first attempt, but I think I've made their bums look a bit big!!!

Please do give me any feedback, I'm pretty thick skinned!

Cheers
Stuart

They look like a bag of sh1te.

Now that's what you get for saying you're thick skinned

I'm no Cz/Nymph expert but they look pretty damned good to me and will catch fish for sure.
I'm sure that the experts will come along soon and put us both straight.

Just a few areas to consider, if you think "their bums look to big" perhaps you should tie in the back material most of the way along the shank rather than just a short stub. That way you won't get a sudden reduction in the underbody thickness where it ends, you will need to reduce the amount of dubbing thickness a bit to compensate though.

Try to trim the back material a few thread turns earlier so that the cut end is hidden in the head & after completion add a couple of coats of varnish.

Really need to see where you've applied the lead.

The bum is a tiny bit big. But only tiny. Work on that and you're are definately there. The rest is neat, slim and looks really good. I try to tie C nymphs and am a long way behind your effort. Well done.

I have posted a few of my try's and don't even get a comment .

You could try tying your shell back in at the head and pulling it back over the fly to the tail, tying it down with the rib.
