Default Birds of Prey ??

Whats the story with birds of prey , if you find one dead can you use it for flies ??

I found a kestrel and think it seems a shame to just throw it away when it is dead anyway

Cheers

Yeah I kinda thought as much , to be honest I have thought about it and decided I am going to use it anyway regardless of what the law is , my conscience is clear as I had nothing to do with its death and I do as much as I can to help wildlife and really enjoy all things wild

Can't bring myself just to bin , burn or bury it .....

Taking cover now ready for the incoming flak

Here in NA, the solution to ur question is one of two things..either you pass on it, for they are endangered, and subject to heavy fine depending on the specie of bird..[eagles as the example, or falcons], or u call ur local game and fisheries to ask for permission to keep said bird, for either mounting or in your case fly tying..

..again here I'm talking about, some of them will just give the bird over to you, others will get you to fill in the necessary forms, or refuse to give it up.

lol

I am with you - I saw a bird squished on the road, quite large and pretty sure it was a bird of prey from the feathers. I would have stopped but traffic was horrendous.

If it was roadkill perhaps maybe take a pic as proof of it's condition when you found it. Might not be of any benefit, but then again, it might.

Also, if you're not selling the flies, and obviously not poaching the bird, I doubt it'll be an issue despite what the law says, or what you've posted on a forum.

Sad to see a bird like this perish but better to use it in some way than let it go in a black bin bag.
