I'm pretty sure it is nothing new. Just from reading about Caddis flies and trying different things.
You know, we often come up with something new on our own, only to be told it's been done long before. Just that we didn't see it before. Know what I mean?

Well where ever it comes from I think it is a way cool fly mate , will be knocking up a doz or so of them
