Default Anyone use a Photo Light Box

Hi,
Trying to take better photos of my flies. I wonder what you guys think about using photo light boxes. I ordered a pretty cheap outfit. A 24" foldable with a couple little side lights. The material is supposed to diffuse the light.

Any comments?

Thanks

I'm sure there's a thread on here where a member made a photo light box.

i use light boxes with graphics students, didnt know you could use them to photograph flies, i'd assume a lightbox will give you more of what comes out your domestic lights,

a daylight lightbulb, stick it in a lamp maybe.

I am a passionate about photography , though i did not worked product photography nor macros for flies.
Yes, a lightbox is the best way, the "pro" way so to speak.
2 or better 3 lightsources, and a decent camera on a tripod.
If a DSLR camera is available, a macro lens and a remote would be the best gear you can use for picturing flies.

Hi Byhaugh. It's probably not necessary to buy a light box (I presume you mean a portable 'studio', rather than an actual light-box - as used for viewning transparencies?). A lot of folk think another fancy equipment purchase will do the trick.. the more equipment, and the more technical the procedure, the better, right? Wrong. No substitute I'm a fraid for a firm grasp of the principles involved, and a sound, simple basic technique.

How 'good' do you want your pictures to be? Here's what you can achieve with a mid-price compact, a ruler, a blob of blue tac, and some natural light. If I may be so bold, I'd venture to say that results like this are perfectly good enough for most peoples purposes... that is, to record and reproduce an image of the fly at a good size, in sharp focus, and with a faithful rendering of the colours.....

If this is the kind of thing you're after, then have a butchers at this thread here.
