Thumbs up Killer River Pennel

Hi Guys

Last season was my first on the river

My top river team was a size 14 Black Pennel tied with skinny silk body, rook hackle and died hot orange tail, with a size 14 Partridge and yellow fished four foot above on a 9ft leader of 3lb maxima.

However right at the end of the season i tried a little Hot head black pennel above the standard black pennel ................ WOW !! Fish after fish hit the Hot head version completely ignoring the standard.

Sadly i did'nt get a chance to use it again before the end of the season ............hope it works as well next season

Sorry about the poor pic but you get the idea........

Hook: B175 14

Hackle: Rook

Tail: Dyed orange tippet

Body: Black Uni 8/0

Rib: Fine gold wire

Head: Fire orange 8/0

Good stuff I like the Black Pennel, I also often use it on a dropper when stillwater fishing, one of those "allrounder" patterns. I bet that hot-head version would be just as good on stillwaters

Cheeky little number that one mate.. nice use of the Rook I can see that doing plenty of damage in a buzzer hatch on stillwater too.

Cheers Englander thats one variation that I dont have and I have many with little twists
The closest I have to one like that is a small bit of red dubbing just behind the hackle.

Bu**er ! now I am going to have to get dyed orange tippets. Rook hackle feathers in Bahrain are in the 'hens teeth' category

Oh well, back to black hen

Nigel

p.s. BTW nice tie

You are not wrong there Rob.
On the bank, wind right to left,5 weight floater, long leader, a nice gentle swing on the breeze. Slide away un missable takes.
Nice one Englander.
