My go to fly for turbulent water or to suspend a nymph is a CDC and Roe. The roe hair spins more than the elk which allows the creation of a much larger muddler stly head on smaller flies helping to keep them high and dry.
When swinging flies across a current I like there to be a lot of movement and to combine this with weight I like the effect of CDC and a brass body. I have posted a similar fly to this but with a hen hackle before, I think i prefer the CDC.
I am in love with sight nymphing and am trying to make my nymphs a little bit more realistic without making them so hard to tie I cry when i lose one. the 200R hooks from Tiemco have a lovely shape and by adding a slight bend to the shank I think they represent agile darters pretty well. I am a bit worried that the hook shape may effect the hookup ratio but time will tell on that one.
Thoughts and comments to help me improve these patterns is greatly appreciated.
