Default River flies

My go to fly for turbulent water or to suspend a nymph is a CDC and Roe. The roe hair spins more than the elk which allows the creation of a much larger muddler stly head on smaller flies helping to keep them high and dry.

When swinging flies across a current I like there to be a lot of movement and to combine this with weight I like the effect of CDC and a brass body. I have posted a similar fly to this but with a hen hackle before, I think i prefer the CDC.

I am in love with sight nymphing and am trying to make my nymphs a little bit more realistic without making them so hard to tie I cry when i lose one. the 200R hooks from Tiemco have a lovely shape and by adding a slight bend to the shank I think they represent agile darters pretty well. I am a bit worried that the hook shape may effect the hookup ratio but time will tell on that one.

Thoughts and comments to help me improve these patterns is greatly appreciated.

Dab - haha that is good to know, must be doing something right if I am following in his footsteps lol.

I just find Elk a bit of a git to work with in smaller sizes, there musdt be a knack to it though, are areas of elk fur significantly different densities and length etc..?
