Default Fly tying scissors?

The fly tying scissors I have had for the last 12 months or so are starting to loose their sharpness and I wondered if anyone knew if there is anyway in which they can be sharpened? Or am I better off just buying an new pair?

Any ideas gratefully received!

Cheers

Adam

I would say keep the old ones as they will still cut all wires and tinsels etc.
Then I would buy a new pair for cutting materials that are not going to blunt them.
Im sure someone previously stated that Dr Slicks could be bought unbranded however I have a pair of slicks and think they are great and 2 1/2 years later they are still as sharp as the day I bought them.

Anvil scissors are brilliant, sharp as razors with several different models. Also the Dr Slick scissors with the knurled adjustment are very good sold by Lakeland as Razor Scissors Dr.Slick Razor Scissors - Lakeland Fly-Tying Limited
of course if you want to splash out there are these http://www.lakelandflytying.com/2087..._Scissors.aspx

I have also been very pleased with my Mitey scissors from Steve Parton. Very good value for money compared to some of the 'premium' brands.
Excellent idea to use your old scissors for other stuff.

It depends on the cost of the scissors in the first place & if you think it's worth the delay in getting them sharpened. I use a surgical instrument supplier for supplying some of my scissors & he sharpens new scissors (on request) to superb sharpness. He can also re-set & sharpen older ones, which aren't micro-serrated along 1 edge. Some of the scissors mentioned earlier are available from Deer Creek - Flash Intro If anyone's interested in the surgical guy, please p.m. me f.f.i.

If you're friendly with your local barber/hairdresser, drop them off with them (plus a couple of quid for their trouble) - local guy here has a contract with a specialist who calls in each month and sharpens all their scissors
