Default Clamp or pedestal type fly vice?

A few months ago I asked for recommendations on which fly vice to purchase to replace my old one. I finally decided on a Snowbee Waldron. I've always used a clamped vice but I notice most of the professionals use a pedestal type. What would experienced fly tiers recommend?

I am no professional but I prefer the pedestal. I like being able to put the vice where I want it. A large heavy base is helpful for stability. Some can be purchased with base and clamp, most should be adaptable.

The important question is what is most comfortable for you.

I prefer pedestals my self and like as been said it is down to choice, another thing to take in to account is where you are going to be tying as Im sure the wife wont want you clamping it to the dinning table.

I am fortunate in that I have a dedicated tying room, well away from the wife, so I use a clamp type, but I also have a pedestal one for the odd times I may need it away from home.
I don't think it matters too much they both seem very stable to me.

It doesnt bother me, probably more inclined towards a pedastal as you can tie anywhere an want ruin the surface of your table.

Always used a clamp type & see no reason to change, depends what you're used to & your height I suppose.

I use both. I prefer the pedestal if I am tying at home as I can move the vice further onto my bench and alter the angle of the vice in relation to my position e.g. I like to turn the vice away from me when dividing the wings on hair wing flies. If I am tying away from home I use a C clamp vice as I don't want to cart a heavy base around.

Default C Clamp or Pedestal

I have used the c-clamp for years with my Dyna King Pro, and is the way to go if using deer hair and kevlar threads. The L extension is another good reason to use the c clamp, as you can move the vise around and out of the way etc.
However, I have the C&F Marco Polo outfit, and it is great, and the pedestal is not heavy at all. I am looking to switching over to a pedestal base on iether my DK, or might get an HMH Std.
