Default A Pile .....

....of Flies

Should be Grizzle and should be long shank but I found it made no difference what so ever when using these on the river last season .

Simplest fly you could ever tie , black thread , Badger hackle , thats it , simples

Just run a wee bit of super glue down the thread base before winding the hackle up , makes it last well with no need for ribs

Cheers

nice and neat Danny
I fished these last year on a visit to Loopy land and they were great little catchers all tied on 24# mind you I never thought about superglue to strengthen them which would have been good as they were pretty knackered after a few fish.

Nice shot Danny I don't bother with a long shank either for the Griff.. or the peacock body, and as you say.. the colour is largely irrelevant - it's the dimpling of the hackle fibres on the film that does the damage - and lots of it!

Nice. I have to say I've never seen a Griff tied on a long shank before (I usually use an SLD or Kamasan B160). Yours look just right to me.

Cheers ears , aye I find they bring a fish up when there is no sign of fish even being in the river

They work well enough on lakes also .

Don't quote me Matt, but it rang a bell with me when Danny mentioned the long shank. I vaguely remember something about the original being tied not on a lonnnnnnnnnng shank, but something similar to a b400... a slightly extended shank!
