Default Olive Nymph

Just playing around with nymphs to fish Czech style so have been trying to keep bodies slim with loads of lead.

This is the fly I am most happy with so far, any suggestions for improvements are greatly appreciated.

Click the image to open in full size.

Hook: TMC 200R size 16 (barbs will be crushed)
Thread: UTC 70 brown
Tail: olive goose biots
Abdomen: Olive PT
Thorax cover: Rear end of the biots from the tail
Thorax: Natural rabbit, natural hares ear, olive hares ear and brown CDC.

Was a bit dubious about putting anything buoyant in the thorax but figured such a small amount of CDC couldn't effect the sink rate too much?! Is it a mistake?

looks good, if you want weight and keep them slim try this pattern with a small black tungsten bead, would work a treat id say...

Dabhoy- it was 0.10mm round lead wire I cannot seem together to grips with the flat stuff.

Will definitely knock up a few with olive and black beads to keep them slim.

Thanks Daniel you are like me the flat stuff never seems to work for me either as I can never get it cut narrow enough.

Nice tying Daniel of an 'old schoolish' fly and sure to catch. I tie them very similar but have had more luck with a small turn or two of orange thread at the tail end or an orange thorax cover (I make mine with an orange thread quadrupled up)

Nice fly there, gotta love the body taper. The CDC in thorax is actually a very good idea, it is highly mobile and will trap little bubbles of air - neither should hurt your catch rate.
And if you want to fish it deep you can tie it in tandem with some sacrificial tungsten monstrosity

Thanks for the comments guys, am going to have another crack at them tonight so will incorporate some of your ideas, may get carried away with the orange and end up with a lure though

Lovely.

Has it got a rib? It looks like it it has one in the pic but I can't be sure, and it's not on your materials list.

In any case, I find that PT fibres break very easily when fished so I always have a rib of some sort, wound the opposite way to the PT fibres. Makes my flies last a lot longer. Sadly, the damage to my flies is caused by trees, rocks, the bank, rubbish casting etc and not very often by fish...
