Default Hooks in the #18 to #24 range

Im looking to buy some smaller hooks in the #18 - #24 range preferably in boxes of 100 of each.

I know TMC hooks come in these sizes but they appear to be quite pricey. Can anyone recommend me any other makes which come in similar sizes and also where they get them from?

Cheers

David

Hi David,

Fulling Mill and Kamsan will get you down to a size 20 at about 10p per hook with some savings for the latter if you go for 100s (FM sell packs of 50). I use TMC below that (sizes 22-24) as it is hard to find such small hooks that you can have confidence in.

Cheers Andy, the only other small ones i had seen were Lathkill Premium (LPH) hooks which appear similar to the tiemco ones.

I'm not sure that its worth saving reasonably small amounts if the Tiemco suits your needs. They make great hooks...

Lathkill Hooks are £9 for 100 and Tiemco hooks of similar size and shape are £17.70 for 100 effectively twice as much.
I just want to see what people are using to see what is going to offer me good value for money.

It's worth giving Chris at Lathkill a call and asking about his bulk hooks........you may be pleasantly surprised

I recently saw some varivas small hooks, down to 24 or something....among the best i've seen so far and i have seen quite a few brands. I can't reffer to their prices as i live in a country where this is a relative issue, small market, cheap stuff preffered by most... but anyway, i didn;t find the prices ridiculously high, similar to TMC , more or less.

David, I wasnt aware of Lathkills hooks in terms of value, but he's a great supplier and well worth a call. Varivas hooks are also great. The biggest problem i have is buying hooks unseen - easy to get things wrong. Varivas very good for small hooks IMO

Its worth trying Funky Fly Tying, Toby stocks Varivas hooks that i have been tying smuts and midges on down to a 24. There is the regular dry hook, curved shank and Midge hooks.
Another site worth looking at is Fly tying Boutique, Phil normally has some great kit and interesting hooks.

Agreed. Varivas are excellent and will take you down to a #30 (should you so wish )

For #18 and #20 hooks, try the Partridge SLD... strong, sharp and by far my favourite dry fly hook (they're great nymph hooks too).

Toby can supply these.
