Use an adjustable matte knife set at an 1/8th of an inch

make the first cut down the middle of the back from neck to butt

use a yard stick and marking pen to measure out a grid of 10 or 12 inch squares for storage

for dyeing, cut into 3/4 wide strips - the narrow strips are easier to dye and the longer strips will mean less curl issues than using ratty 2-3in squares
